Long-time TFCU member Mary Schadler from Enid, Oklahoma, nominated her nephew Rocky Ray Root for the TFCU “Thankful for You” contest.
“This man will help me any time I ask and is always there for me, only a phone call away,” Mary said.
She was very excited to learn that he had been randomly selected as one of TFCU’s 2023 winners.
“He’s had so many hard blows in life, healthwise and in so many other ways. He could really use a blessing,” Mary said. “When I saw the contest on Facebook the first person I thought of was Rocky. He just comes by and checks in on me, and is so helpful – whether he’s fixing my vacuum cleaner or anything I need.”
Rocky Ray, from Homewood, Oklahoma, shared a similar sentiment about his aunt.
“She is always calling on people, doing whatever she can for anyone,” he said. Mary and Rocky Ray expressed how important being family-oriented is to both of them. They talked about always being close and having big Thanksgivings. They said their grandma was the glue of the family and that bond was passed down through generations.
