Kate Bacon, a rower with the Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation, married into a Tinker Federal Credit Union membership when she married her husband, Paul.
Paul’s father was in the Air Force for 30 years, and got his family involved with TFCU. Now, Paul is also in the military, and has kept TFCU in the family because they understand a military lifestyle.
“Tinker understands the military aspect of Oklahoman’s lives a little better. When someone is deployed and doesn’t get paid on time, they work with them based on their military background,” Kate says.
With 3,500 soldiers deployed last year, many military families have struggled with stability. With TFCU on their side, they have one less thing to worry about.
With TFCU taking care of her financially, Kate has more time for rowing at the Oklahoma River. Since starting out at a U.S. Olympic canoe and kayak training site, Kate has joined a team of eight who race together against other corporations.
Corporate rowing is more than a hobby for Kate, it is her passion. The companies who compete against each other in these races cross-promote to spread the word that rowing is something everyone at any age or level of fitness can enjoy.
“Banking isn’t too exciting, so TFCU will do the boring stuff, while you go do the fun stuff.” Like crossing the finish line in first place.
