Julie & August: “TFCU helped us put down roots.”

In 1980, August Medina set out on a big life change—moving from Puerto Rico to Oklahoma. He had just been hired as a civilian employee at Tinker Air Force Base (TAFB) for a communications engineer job.

“Three days after moving to Oklahoma, I opened my account with Tinker Federal Credit Union,” said August. “A couple of weeks later, I bought my first car through TFCU. I enjoyed that car. It was a muscle car—a blue 1976 Plymouth Volare … We’ve probably had 15 car loans with the credit union over the years.”

A few years later, August married his now wife of 37 years, Julie, and they soon added to their family with two sons—Edgar and Christopher. After 41 years of TFCU membership, 37 years of working at TAFB (now retired), two grown and married sons, plus two grandchildren—August looks back with pride.

“TFCU helped us put down roots in Oklahoma,” said August.

From Julie’s point of view, “I trust TFCU. They are like a big family. They have always been there for us, supporting us every step of the way. When we needed a car loan, when we needed to refinance our mortgage—they were there to help us out.”

Little did Julie and August know how much TFCU would really mean to their family. Their son, Edgar Medina, has worked for the credit union for 16 years now—rising up to become an assistant vice president and branch manager. “It amazes me,” said August. “It’s a great thing to have my son working for TFCU. To me, it’s one of the greatest organizations in Oklahoma.”
